Hi All

Cheers Russ
hi russ, need a but more info from you really - primarily budget!
my personal opinion is to avoid pcw world and aol - but then thats just me.
belkin i have found are the most realiable for wireless and customer support is excellent - they are also generally easy to set but you will need help to secure a belkin system, unless you are in to IT as such.
give us a bit more info and i'll get back to you mate.

im not a pro on laptops..but i have to suggest to stay well clear of dell!!
I would recommend toshiba.....great laptop...i have the equium!
i have had 3 different dells in the last 5 years and they have been very good with the exception of the exploding battery incident!
their chassis are some of the best but better to use toshiba hard drives and a variety of other bits to your own spec from different companies.
in terms of build to spec - we have not had trouble with them but many have.
i recently had a laptop built with a dell chassis and a variety of other bits - cant remember the exact spec off hand but i was lead to believe it was one of the most powerful laptops in the country that they had build.
but the downsize is the size - twin core, twin battery, twin fan, widescreen 1920x1200 pixel screen - weighs...................... alot.
but the power!!!

I bought my laptop from Staples.... found it in PCWORLD but got it £80 cheaper at staples.
searched the Net and could not find it any cheaper.
As for ISP i was with AOL for years. they are C*** when i moved house last year i also changed Broadband provider and am Now with BT..... they have been superb and i cannot recomend them enough.......
Even though i cancelled my aol account and moved to a new address, they still took money from my account... after i stopped the DD. i had no problems untill recently. They had some company send me a letter threatening court Action if i did not pay them money i owed them..... hang on i said i am paid up to date, in fact they took more than they should have.....
when we checked it out they were trying to claim money for 4 months
after had been with BT..... they still trying to get me to pay, saying i definatly had the service...... I was at a totally different address for a start. I took my number with me, and i had Bt broadband and was paying Bt since August......
Had a call about the money today... Just told them to take us to court. as i have the BT bills showing i was paying bt for the service...... not them.
Have been told Lots of people have this sort of problem with AOL

Hi Del
Ive been with AOl for years as well look forward to cancelling my subscription :character0307: :mad0245: how much do you pay for BT ????
three best broadband providers are bt, virgin media and sky...
the choice depends really on the package you want - re: tv channels, phone or even mobile all in a bundle.
russ - will look in to a spec for £500 and get back to you mate. are you a gamer or designer? just gives me an idea of processor and ram.

Personally Russ, go for a conroe CPU (should be able to get one at that price) get one with 1Gb of ram and at least a 80Gb or bigger hard drive and you'll be fine.
Most if not all laptops now, come with wireless, so thats always easy to sort
Always have a look around if you do decide you like one particular model, as Derek said, you can normally pick up the same thing sometimes cheaper than you ever thought possible!! Its always a plus and it doesnt take to long to have a look about
About the broadband supplier, I think thats personal choice really. Never wanted to try AOL but others rave about it.
I currently use Plus.net and they are ok. I think most are putting limits on what you can download (size wise) but if this isnt a problem with you as you dont game online or download big files, the amount you download will be small.
Wish you all the best with the laptop and the broadband supplier

I've had all sorts of problems with my Belkin wireless G router failing (on my third and thats playing up now, at least they were free replacements) and I'm not alone I discovered after very little searching. It may be isolated to the particular model I've got though. Personally I recommend Netgear or D-Link for routers and modems.
fair enough - netgear is a reliable make.
earlier belins were dodgy but still service is better than most.
